WhatsApp vs. Telegram : Which One is Better for iOS 13?

January 4, 2020 By HipStore

The advent of the internet has been crucial in coining one of the most potent words in modern times, i.e., ‘instant messaging.’ Social networking has been key to condensing the whole wide world into a global village. Nowadays, people of various ethnicities and nationalities can interact and socialize freely without the restrictions imposed by practical barriers. One of the more recent innovations in this field is that of instant messaging applications. Similar to the SMS system, the instant messaging system sends short to long multimedia messages via the all-encompassing World Wide Web. While the SMS system is quite efficient, the instant messaging protocol goes one better by eliminating overheads, other than the internet access charge. Thus, at present, there isn’t a more robust system of connecting with people on a one-on-one basis.

WhatsApp vs. Telegram | Which is better for your iPhone?

The popularity of the instant messaging sectors has introduced many fresh faces into the online market. Most of these have a cross-platforming facility, with the application being compatible with the most prevalent mobile-based operating system, including Android, iOS, and Java. Two of the most popular messaging applications are WhatsApp and Telegram. In this article, we shall be discussing the suitability of these apps for the iOS system. Let’s learn a bit about these apps first.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp initially started as a free multimedia messaging service, hosted over an Internet Protocol. The WhatsApp Incorporation developed it established in Mountain View in California and was bought by Facebook in February 2014 in a deal worth about 20 million dollars. The application has come leaps and bounds since then with the introduction of voice calls, groups and broadcast channels, and the ‘story’ feature, which showcases your day-to-day highlights. It has been integrated with Google maps enabling people to share their location amongst one another, and also with major payment gateways to send and receive money. It is easily one of the more popular multipurpose apps on the market, at current.

Telegram

Telegram is also an initiative similar to WhatsApp, whereby you can send voice calls, text, and other multimedia files via an IP address. Telegram is much more customizable with the messaging client coding being open-source, even if the in-built code is proprietary. It was created by the Russian brothers Pavel and Nikolai Durov, who were also behind the erstwhile VK networking enterprise. They introduced this app to have hard-core security with end-to-end encryption and even secret chats between people. As of March 2018, Telegram has been documented to have 200 million monthly users, making it one of the most downloaded messaging apps on the market.

What is better for iOS 13 –WhatsApp or Telegram

Their functionality across all platforms is similar, and hence the answer to what app is better relies heavily on the utility and user-friendliness.

For starters, WhatsApp has been in the works for much longer, resulting in the app being much more refined overall. The integration of various other applications like Facebook, Google Maps, and Google Search, etc. has provided much-needed flexibility concerning application utility. It has become much more than a simple messaging application, with people able to access locations, social networks, and even payment gateways. Telegram is still a standalone application and doesn’t boast of much utility, other than multimedia messaging.

Telegram has put its Magnum Opus on privacy and encryption. However, it has received much flak from that angle as well, with the encryption procedure being labeled as unreliable by many cryptographers and data scientists alike. On most points, WhatsApp trumps Telegram in a significant way. However, one sector telegram excels in is its web client. The web client is simple, smooth, and has a very user-friendly interface. Most of the users can access it directly by logging onto the internet via their PC or Laptop. The web client for WhatsApp is much more complicated to operate. You need to download the application and then connect your phone to the application via a QR code to access it. Moreover, it also requires that your phone must be connected to the internet at all times, as well.

Despite this drawback, it must be said that WhatsApp is still miles ahead of any other competition in its sector, including Telegram. Telegram is growing by the hour and enhancing its global outreach. At this point, though, WhatsApp is a clear winner.
